At the Department of Laboratory Medicine (KILM) basic and applied research approaches are combined to study key questions of biomedical research. A major focus is put on the areas of cardiovascular medicine and metabolism, and several aspects within these areas are topics of investigation, including basic vascular and adipose tissue biology, molecular aspects of metabolism, inflammatory and immune mechanisms, as well as genetics and cancer.
KILM Research Laboratories translate experimental research results to human medicine, including the identification of novel biomarkers and mechanism of disease. Education of graduate students as well as the post-doctoral training of MDs, MD/PhDs and PhDs is part of our mission.
