Computational Fluid Dynamics enables to study fluid dynamics in various kinds of applications. Using CFD, a computational model is build that represents the system or device which has to be analyzed. After application of the fluid flow physics to this virtual prototype, the software calculates a prediction of the fluid dynamics. CFD not only allows to predicts fluid flow behavior, but also transfer of heat, mass, chemical reaction, phase change, mechanical movement (such as a rotating impeller) and stress or deformation of related solid structures.
For the simulations we use the commercial software ANSYS® Workbench. This software tool allows the simulation of fluid dynamics, structural mechanics and multiphsics.
In our research we work on flow simulations in an aortic models, pump components and artificial organs.
